Yes it makes sense to put the games you had on xbox here on steam, i would just wait until they go on sale so you dont blow as much money, steam has frequent sales and they're usually pretty good! :D
steam profiles are 100 percent worth customising although not completely neccessary, its just fun to do and is apart of the culture!
achievements dont really matter there isn't gamerscore like there is on xbox but they are fun to get!

I bought the couple of games I played most on Xbox (The Division 2 and Fallout 76 currently). It’s sad to not carry over my progress, but it’s been cool to see how the early hours of both games have changed since I started them on Xbox years ago.
I’ll keep an eye out for sales; I managed to get the games I have now during their Black Friday sale which was good timing.
I definitely need to work on my profile next, it’s looking pretty bleak at the moment!
Thanks for the heads up, it will be cool to see those nostalgic games with a performance boost for sure.
