Epic gives away big games because they’re trying to grow their store and attract more users. Steam is already the dominant platform, so it doesn’t need to offer huge free games to compete. It’s mostly a business strategy difference, not generosity.

Isn't this worse for the consumer, given that Steam is simply dominant, it only creates discounts and nothing more, raising the price of Prime in CS lmao

Does Steam need to compete with Epic Game Store? No.

Epic Game Store on the other hand needs to attract gamers to their store BUT not ones who pay, they are only there for the freebies, and why the store has still not made a profit 5 years or is it 6 years since opening.

Epic Games Store needs to attract users.

It is as simple as that.

Epic games is trying to grow while steam doesn't so they give games away for free and besides steam constantly has massive sales on games for days to weeks at a time which is better then getting a free game every once and a while.
