Clarification on Family share in 2025?
So thanks to Xbox screwing the pooch I built myself a PC about a year ago and switched over. This Christmas I am building my son a gaming PC so he can also switch too but I am pretty confused on how Family share works now.

My research has people saying that not only can you not play a game with someone in your family but you can't even be online playing ANY game in order for a family member to play any game at all? (That's being shared) But then there were also posts and topics saying that is NOT the case and that it's only the same game?

Because that can't possibly be the case right? That would mean after I build my son this PC I would have to build and buy a SECOND game library for him because game sharing doesn't really share anything at all?

On Xbox literally everything was shared even the game pass subscription. And like it's Xbox they are literally the scum of gaming at this point. So it seems...kinda insane... that this is how it works on steam?

Most of the posts I'm seeing were 3-4 years old is that how it worked a long time ago or something?

My mind can not wrap around not even like being able to be online playing a game myself at the same time my son is online playing a game that's being shared. So I'm just assuming there is no way that's actually how it works.

xbox = microsoft has down the toilet, used to use gamepass alot until they put the price up. you shouls create your son instead of sharing games, you cant play the same game while you're both online at the same time
