Steam wallet cards at your local grocery store... $20 each... tell people on steam its your birthday(everyone falls for that)
Maybe get some of those for your actual birthday, or Christmas, etc.

Plenty of Free2Play games to enjoy that will potentially get you things for your profile page until you can get 'real' games, etc.
