Same problem, steam can't be opened

1. Click twice on an empty spot on desktop > go to Finder.

2. Select Go in the drop down menu > click on Go To Folder.

3. Copy and paste ~/Library/Application Support.

4. Now, rename the Steam folder and try to launch Steam again.

5.Keep in mind that your Mac computer installs Steam in two locations: /Library/Application
Support and ~/Library/Application Support.

This worked for me, thanks! To be clear, the trick in instruction (4) is to rename the folder from "Steam" to literally anything else. I just did "Steam1", double-clicked the app to launch again, and voila! It worked!

Hey, I don't know if anyone is still having this issue, but the same thing happened to me and the fix was just installing steam from chrome Instead of downloading it from safari hope it helps

Haha! That's interesting! I had no idea that this might be the case for some apps. I usually prefer Safari, but lately, I noticed that there's an issue with installing or upgrading some apps. Well, I've tried to upgrade my desktop messengers, and the download didn't even start!
