Hammer Editor Closing When Trying to load or save
Just as the title says. It's probably something extremely simple, since I just have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, but I wasn't able to find anything on it.

When I load Hammer, it starts up fine. I can create new maps, create objects, as far as I can tell, everything to create works fine. However, I can't save or attempt to load anything. Whenever I go to save, it brings up the dialog box, gives me options for location, etc., but when I hit save, Hammer just closes. No files are saved, no error messages, no "XXX.exe is not responding". Just closes. Same thing happens when I hit cancel. And trying to open anything doesn't even bring up the dialog box.

I just installed it a couple hours ago, so the files should all be fine, unless I have to have TF installed separately for some strange reason.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Weird, can you check and see if it's generating any dump files?

Unfortunately, I needed it for a project, so when I couldn't get it to work, I used a different, then uninstalled it to free up space. However, I did find that it's something to do with naming files before then. There was one other thread that I was eventually able to find (sorry, don't have the link) that basically had the same problems: it does this when trying to do a Save As and when launched from the launcher.

The workarounds, for anyone else who has this problem:
1. FInd the hammer.exe file in the steam folder and launch directly from that. Do not use the built in launcher. This solves the load crash; I'm not sure if it affects saving
2. Download any bsp file. Doesn't matter what.
3. Load said file, delete everything to create blank file, save. Rename save file in Explorer.
If you need multiple files, make copies in explorer and rename them there. Regular saving works fine, just not name editing.
4. (Not sure if this made any difference or not, or what it does. Follow this step at your own risk) There was an error in the in-program log saying that it couldn't find something on line 1368-ish of some text file. I went in and deleted that line, and its section, set off with brackets.

Regardless, thank you.
