Possible to set up a tunnel to connect to a CSGO dedicated server?
I have my machinery here and thought it would be great to be able to host CS servers from home. There is a downside however being that if I were to share this out, I would be exposing my IP. Now I cannot change my IP at the drop of a hat, my IP is very much static. And there is most definitely a test of trust not only with people within my organisation but people outside of it competing for the tournaments. This is not something I am willing to risk, I have been DDoSed in the past attempting to do the same thing I described and the last thing I would want to happen is something like that again.

There is a site called https://playit.gg that allows you to use a different IP to connect to your CSGO server all without port forwarding! Which sounds great but when attempting to connect to the server, it just kicks you straight back into the Panorama UI. It even shows up in the community server browser with the active map and player count, but it just won't allow it to join with the error

"Server using 'public' lobbies, requiring pw no, lobby id ffffffffffffffff"

And judging by this steam changelog of CS https://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/2015/12/13325/ It seems like it might not be possible anymore?

"Community servers can now be only connected by their real public IP or their internal RFC1918 address."

Wanted to see if there was any good alternative where I can host servers without exposing my static IP at all, thanks for reading to the end!

If you fancy the opinion of a professional on the field: Don't do it. Don't host from home.

One has to know what one is doing there, that does not necessarily begin or end with the exposed IP (which always is exposed, but at least there are no ports forwarded to an intelligent system inside the trusted zone). Also: changing IPs (as with some/most ISPs) are a PITA for servers.
If you want to play with your own server, buy yourself a Linux VM for a couple of bucks per month with a good service provider, and use that.

Tunnels are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ alternative anyways, they increase ping and don't help with your problem in the first place: Exposing an intelligent system inside your trusted zone to the internet.

I agree 100%..

I have a server of my own, l4d2, i got ddosed a lot in the past.. no big deal about it, just make sure you have some iptables in place and you will be ok.. nothing much besides a few lag spikes here and there, assuming you have a decent connection..

I've not tried it myself yet, but maybe PlayIt[playit.gg] might do the trick?

Yeah that was the thing I mentioned already in the discussion topic, didn't work at all. Believe it's due to the changelog post that I put on the topic too

Unfortunate but there you are!

Oh, my bad. Sorry. I somehow managed to overlook that you had already mentioned it. Friend of mine just messaged it at me recently to use for a Valheim server, but I haven't tried it yet. :(

I know for Valheim it works! They have a native tunnel for that :) I use it for Minecraft too and works pretty well.

No worries, bro. I got it well under control. Don't matter one bit to me if you or anyone else thinks "no one want to play on" the private little server I'm settin' up for me and a couple few friends, since they've already played on my servers in the past and never had any complaints. I'm just implementing little "quality of life" improvements to make the thing easier for them to connect to.

You kidding right?
With default config you barely need 4~5mbps (<1mb/s).. i don't think anyone has less than that.
With 125tick and buffed network settings my server wont go above 15mbps(1,8MB/s) while full (versus - 8 players).
What you really need is SPEED.. aka low latency (ping), which is also no problem nowadays.

if you are looking for a server to play on , have a look on mine... but its mostly empty . . .
Also even i host my server on a dedicated off site , i personally host it from Germany (Strato)
If you want a cheap and good server they have some good options there.
