Escape from Tarkov is my suggestion, but it's not on Steam.

Insurgency Sandstorm has a survival mode where you capture points, find weapons, and at the last point you hold out and extract.

This mode is players vs bots, so hopefully that qualifies. I play that game entirely for its coop modes anyhow.

Have you played the PvE side? A much better experience in my opinion.

Isn't an extraction shooter just a video game where you kill other players and steal their stuff? Like a battle royale but you leave. I don't fully understand the genre but that's what I gathered when I found out games like Warframe, X-COM, and Helldivers definitely aren't extraction shooters despite being games where you shoot things and then extract.

what you are meaning, "represents our current timeline"? same time period? same political climate?

while none of these are our current time period i suggest:

- vermintide 2
- darktide
- helldivers 2

Extraction shooters you usually go in with gear to try to loot more gear/ valuable loot to sell to buy more gear. If you die/ fail to extract you lose all the gear you brought in. Makes it a risk vs reward situation.

I like the content and design but I heard some bad, critical and unprofessional work in this game. Also this thing never gets updated.
