The always reveal themselves with using US colloquialisms when pretending to be "brits" for example.

You will just get banned or even anxiety if you're emotionally weak.
I'm not going to speculate about how many are bots or alts - that's a rabbit hole that is impossible to prove.
But I agree with OrLok; I do see a lot of people claiming to be from X but using slang, aphorisms or even syntax from Y.
The big thing to realize about political threads is that the entirety of global and regional politics is filled with bad actors pretending to be something they are not in order to sow division. Some of the worst examples of extremists on all sides are poseurs exploiting Poe's law.
Seems to be a thing that flew over from Twitter.
