the high-tech corporate socialism of the future
I think corporations of the future will use algorithms and data about consumers to decide what prices should be on an individualized basis. That way in the future, with data about every individual's income, they can charge higher prices to people with higher incomes, promoting equality by making people with high incomes pay more, and making people with lower incomes pay less. Surprisingly, it actually suits corporate interests nicely to move toward such a business model that benefits the poor at the expense of those with higher incomes.

Many companies already do something similar... knowing there are more poor people in certain regions with less ability to pay, they charge different prices to people in wealthier regions for the same product.

But why make price depend on region instead of income? After all, there are rich people in poor regions and poor people in rich regions. Making price depend on income makes more sense for corporations than making it depend on region, because then you collect more sales from poor people that live in rich countries with less ability to pay. This maximizes revenue, sales, and profits for digital products.

I think corporations of the future will thus use data they collect about individuals to create a new and more effective kind of corporate socialism that makes people with higher incomes pay higher prices, and likewise charges people with lower incomes lower prices.

This way, sales volumes and profits for digital products can be maximized... because charging a poor person a price that's too high for them results in reduced sales and reduced profits.

Setting prices on an individual basis like this was impractical in the past because society lacked computers to make it possible to set different prices for each individual in society. But now with modern computers, widespread surveillance, and corporate data collection... it has now become practical for corporations to charge every individual a different price... in cases where the law allows it.

EDIT: This post is just me reflecting on trends in business, politics, and technology... I'm not advocating for any particular behavior or policy.

Dynamic pricing has many odds of being weaponized against the average citizen (or perhaps i'm way too pessimistic and cynical, i just don't trust corpos with such tech) :lunar2019deadpanpig:, imo corpos should have far less power not more.
