EU trying to fine X platform $140 million
Pretending a platform is engaging in "deceptive practices" when they just want to censor.
Everyone knows they just want to shutdown posts about anti-government, anti-mass immigration, etc protests. And it's also because X refuses to comply with the EU on surveillance of users. (Hence that part about not allowing researchers from independently accessing its public data, including through scraping)

Elon Musk's social media company X was fined 120 million euros ($140 million) by EU tech regulators on Friday for breaching online content rules, the first sanction under landmark legislation that once again drew criticism from the U.S. government.

While X did not respond to an emailed request for comment, Musk replied "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥"(BS) under a European Commission post about the fine. He also reposted several messages criticising the decision and wrote: "Freedom of speech is the bedrock democracy. The only way to know what you are voting for."

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr denounced the EU's fine.

"The European Commission's $140 million fine isn't just an attack on @X, it’s an attack on all American tech platforms and the American people by foreign governments. The days of censoring Americans online are over," Rubio posted on X.

Carr said on X that the sanction showed Europe fining a successful U.S. tech company for being a successful U.S. tech company.

Why not ban it in EU? We KNOW Elon uses it as a politcal tool and that its bloated with bots from adversarial nations.
China and Russia bans tons of platforms why shouldnt we?

At this rate, all mainstream non-EU platforms should geoblock the EU given how much this region in particular complains about things.

A platform used as a political tool for billionaires and Indian/Russian/Chinese bot farms is not your ¨last bastion of free speech¨. Its a way to control goycattle like every crybaby in this thread

yup, i posted that in the UK thread in steam discussions, then had someone claim it was fake.

that said, EU/UK, over here trying to thieve everyones data on X, so they can use/sell it, or maybe even fine/arrest people for their deemed "bad speech", or "bad posts".

also as a side note, it appears youtube is forcing their age verification on everyone, no matter what country/region.

UK is still european and have much of the same problems, if not more. Hence people mentioning it even if they're not directly involved in this particular story.
