RAM "crisis" or gamers still allow to get ripped off?
one month ago I wanted to buy RAM and w8 for black friday, one month later the price 4x. Obviously everybody has heard the news about AI companies buying up RAM and RAM companies switching to selling only to AI companies.
I know that in order to improve AI, AI companies need double the amount of resources they have now and obviously to tripple maybe exponential of that amount. There is no limit, and AI companies are playing a dirty game, they get subsidy form governments, that means our tax money (any country).
Now I wonder what can the consumers do since it wont stop

AI - the gift that keeps on giving.

The best thing to come out about AI so far, apart from use in the medical field, is those cat making food / playing instruments on the porch TikTok videos. :cleandino:

hehe if your on Amd 5 socket already, better hope your ram doesn't fail 2-3 times in the next 5 years. You might end up paying 1000 dollars to fix it.

And thats just if your using low amounts, good luck if your replacing 64gb ram each time, WHEW

It's not much different than when crypto miners started buying up all the GPUs which caused GPU prices to skyrocket for a while. Eventually it evens out and prices return to normal.

Something doubly sad about something as cool as a high powered GPU being used for that stuff. :steamsad:

Ram is in most everything. The ssd, the video card, the ram cards, the game consoles, maybe even the motherboard has a little bit.

All the "smart" devices and tvs, cars, etc might have it too.

I still remember when dealers/manufactoures or what not had tons of cars and they couldn't sell them because they didn't have the computer stuff to install into them.

GPUs never quadruplet in price

It won't be very funny if switch 2, playstation, steam machine, vr headsets get a 200 dollar price increase, citing ram price increases.

They'll do it long before the ram price increase, too.

The memory industrys have been caught twice now, doing this exact same thing. Colluding together and reducing product to increase demand.

If I was going to blame it on anyone, it would be the trump administration because they are crooked as all hell.

Alot of illegal ♥♥♥♥ happening because these rich people know that one of their own isnt going to protect the consumers.

It seems like gamers here dont understand that I pointed out only one aspect, the prices for RAM. AI are minimising or will minimise a lot of available jobs. You wont even have money to buy RAM. Electricity is another aspect, in order to to run AI you need a lot of electricity, if you want to double the performance, you need e.g. the double electricity the US is using now. Where will this electricity come from or who wont get the electricity or to what price. The electricity bills will rise to amounts you will think thrice whether you want to switch on the PC or dont

Uh huh. And that new demand isn't going to go without a supply increase by manufacturers to make the sales.

I would use buy now and pay later loans. For those who are Americans, Affirm and Klarna to split purchases into 4 or monthly term. That would be viable alternative than purchasing RAM in one go.
