Drone Programming - will it help me get a job?
Hello all,

I recently purchased a kit to make your own little programmable drone. What I plan to do after I build the drone and test the manual remote control is to make it more autonomous by giving it various simple "tasks" to do. The tasks will be carried out using javascript programs and will consist of simple movements like "rise more than 1 meter in the air, move to, and land on a surface" to more complex tasks such as navigating an obstacle course. If I am successful, then I will take videos of the drone doing the tasks, then share them on my LinkedIn. (I might even share the source code used to accomplish each task.)

I was wondering if this is a good idea to help me find employment.

Thanks in advance for your answers and advice!

considering the military applications of drones, yes, it could help you get a job.

Thanks for giving me hope!
probably. also keep a spotless criminal record and have a stable home life because most of the more prestigious jobs are with governments and they want stable people working for them. (insert joke here).

Thankfully I have no criminal record, but what exactly is a "stable home life"?

like if you are a gambler and you're addicted to it. they view that as a risk because you could possibly sell their info for cash to foreign power or competitor. if you display erratic behavior in your private life they will question if you're worth keeping around.

AI is the quick fix that CEOs think will help them but they don't know it's limitations. Especially if OP works a defense contractor or government.

Ah I see. I better behave then!

Perhaps...but i hope there's still room for "meatling" programmers....

Still a few decades away, after the AI bubble implodes we might finally see a decent amount of progress towards that. Until then @OP has plenty of time imho.

If software engineers with degrees, personal projects, and certs are getting ghosted and struggling to find work. What makes you or anyone else think, a little drone project is gonna move mountains? AI and Vibe Coders already stole your spot. It'll look good on a resume, so it's not pointless. But it's not the holy grail. So go ahead, do it.

That's wishful thinking. What people need are rules and regulations to put qualified backsides in seats and good money in their pockets. Don't see that happening even in my dreams.
About as much as building a model rocket makes you a rocket scientist.
If you want a career, you have to study for years like everyone else.

Well you're correct but i think @OP can somehow made it throught:lunar2019coolpig:, if not at least @OP can learn a new skill / hobby to have fun with. :steamhappy:

If it causes you to learn to code then yes.
Sandbox, dirt box, gravel box, water box, snow box, grass box, bug box, reflective box. The drones environment is the expensive part for creating the maneuvers.

Shouldn't be any different there trying to get water to flow in and out of pipes hidden behind walls without seeing. Cause that drones gonna be not following a darn thing and just tricking you into changing peoples television from pause to play
