Millions of American workers struggle to find homes
The skyrocketing cost of living has left millions of people struggling to afford a place to live despite working at full-time jobs or a number of part-time jobs.

Why are so many Americans struggling despite American wages being so high?

Ya can't make an omelette without crackin' a few eggs!
Sorry bout that, kiddo!
They are crying making up excuses why they dont want to work and live with parents all their life.
Its not hard in USA. Rent is about half of what you make.

If wages are high, everything else gets more expensive to match.

Also, many Americans do NOT get "high" wages.
NIMBY boomers, houses as investments and mass immigration.
So no different to many other countries then.

That's literally the antithesis of what op just said. What are you on about? :steamfacepalm:

Imagine having to drain out half of your income just for somewhere to cook and sleep.

American wages are high? Pffffff…
They struggle to find homes, or they struggle to find a place to live?

Because homes are easy to find. Neighborhoods are the first place to look!

Cheaper places are 1/4 or less.
I figure it that most people I know that do not have real careers or education make around $2000 a month. You can get a cheap apartment for about $600, a nice one for $1000. I was just showing the bottom to say its not hard. Most people I know in my actual circle make at least $10,000 a month and pay around $2000 a month for a house. So its not hard.

The Palisades still haven't been rebuilt because of overregulation in California.

Basically, it's illegal to replace the houses as they were because of additional requirements that have been added over the years.

Also, cities with rent controls aren't seeing any rental properties being built.

I live near a small town, where the economy really isn't all that bad. Finding an apartment for 600 a month would be a miracle. And if you did find one, it would likely be a one room apartment, with a 'kitchenette'...... in a rather interesting part of town. Want a decent one bedroom apartment? 900 a month minimum. 2 bedrooms? 1200 a month minimum.

Me? I bought my house at the right time. I have a 2500 square foot, old farmhouse, and I pay less than 400 a month for my house PAYMENT. Not rent..... Of course, you are NOT going to find anything like that, that you can actually live in, these days......
In my neighborhood:
- 1 bedroom apt: $2600/month
- 3 bedroom starter home: $643,900
- Average wage: $4551/month

Factor in home insurance, taxes, car payments (no public transportation here), food, gas, and the rest and it's not enough to cover the cost of a home. Mystery solved.

Rent smaller places, retire early in Asia
