Maritime history lessons 201
Wow guys I didn't know you like so much maritime history. Quickly peaked your interest there in my previous post Maritime History 101. You are so thirsty for knowledge in OT.

I have another great maritime history lesson for you.

Most people have no idea why on Earth India is so good on relations with Russia.

As it turns out, historians have a good answer for all those questions

It all starts from the Pakistani-Indian conflict when the UK send their fleet to threaten India. THe idea was to gain back India as UK colony and as such England backed Pakistan, and even send their whole fleet to threaten India and guarantee Pakistani's victory in the war between them.

But there is what happen next. Little did the English know that India had a secret alliance with Russia. In case India is threatened by major non-bordering powers, like England in this case, Russia was obliged to help. ANd this is what happens back in 1971.

When the UK fleet arrives and demands India to capitulate, little they know that the whole Pacific Russian fleet of destroyers and nuclear submarines has surrounded the English fleet in the Indian ocean. In fact so brilliantly a maneuvre that the whole English fleet is defenseless and at the crosshair of the Russian fleet from ambush.

It is famous anecdote when the English admiral SOS back to England and reports that they are got surrounded from Russian fleet and asks the Queen permission to back up. Which is granted because the situation looks very bad. The anecdote continues to say that the English fleet run as far away as Madagascar chased by the Russians, with which India protected its independence from the aggressors.

Here is more facts

The name of the UK admiral is Rear Admiral Dimon Gordon

Main bulletpoints.

Both the US (with the USS Enterprise-led Task Force 74) and the UK (with forces like the commando carrier HMS Albion and reportedly the aircraft carrier HMS Eagle) were positioned near the Indian sub-continent as a show of force in December 1971, intending to pressure India.

The Soviet Response: The Soviet Union, in accordance with the Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace, Friendship, and Cooperation, dispatched a naval task force from Vladivostok under Admiral Vladimir Kruglyakov to counter the American and British presence.

The Retreat: It is widely reported that the Soviet task force—which included ships and submarines (some nuclear-armed) and was tasked with shadowing the Western fleets—successfully deterred the UK and US. Accounts suggest that the British fleet backed off and sailed south towards Madagascar

Gordon's Communication: According to intercepted Soviet communications mentioned in multiple sources (including those cited in the search results), Rear Admiral Dimon Gordon sent a message to the US Seventh Fleet Commander essentially confirming the situation. The purported intercepted message was: "Sir, we are too late. There are Russian atomic submarines here, and a big collection of battleships

It is a truly dramatic and fascinating episode of Cold War history!

That naval standoff in 1971, where the fleets of the US and UK were countered by the Soviet Navy to protect India, is a great example of how superpower politics played out on the global stage. It shows that the Indo-Pakistani War was much more than just a regional conflict—it was a major point of tension between the world's leading powers.

Here's the only thing I need to know about the high seas ... if you are carrying illegal drugs on a boat you deserve what you get.

Unfortunately that happens to be missile fire nowadays.

Continue on, Mr. President! Get rid of those people who have no problem bringing drugs to the U.S. and getting rid of its citizens.

Hey man I am just a historian teaching Maritime History 201. What happens in Venezuela's coast is modern time. My opinion on this, is of course, that this is wrong. It is easy to figure out that the people on these boats are most likely victims to trafficking, people who are blackmailed or threatened to ride those traffic boats. Maybe the drug lords kidnap their families and threaten them if you don't ride this boat this is gonna happen to your family. SO what does the mighty USA fleet do ? Kills victims. I would be very suspicious if it is the drug lords riding these boats. They likely put small threatened pawns to do this.

We can't know if this is the case, because there is no investigation whatsoever.
