Without that particular gun pointed at the head of the world, Putin's territorial ambitions would've been put to rest a long time ago. As you point out, even with drones from Iran and extra bodies for the meat grinder from North Korea, they haven't even been able to take all of the Donbas, let alone the entirety of Ukraine.

The vaunted Red Army of the Defense of Stalingrad and the Cold War is no more. They're looking a lot like the army that got thoroughly embarrassed by Finland in 39-40 before they finally crushed the Mannerheim Line through sheer weight of numbers.

Putin problem is he think its only Ukraine that need to give up alot of stuff to make this end. He wants the whole cake for himself as to say. Nothing but the whole cake is the only victory in his mind. Not getting the whole cake would mean the rich elite would view him as a weak leader. And Putin dont want to show he is weak.

Europe doesn't want war. It just thinks Russia want war and prepares accordingly. Now we can argue if they are correct or not, sure, but the point is that they don't actually want a war.
