☪️🕎☯️✝️🛐Any intelligent educated Atheists here in Off Topic?
Did you break with manmade religion later in life or were you never really indoctrinated by your parents/local community after birth?

Atheism and theism are misnomers because they imply that both are on equal ground, when they are in fact not.

Our father who art in fantasy, we etymologically trace thy name. thy observable kingdom come and will be done on earth as in the imaginary cloud hippie town. We know you will not give us bread as there is no evidence for this
Over the years I have moved away from identifying as an atheist. For one thing, you have to deal with all the nonsense where theists try to make not believing their fairy tales into a belief system. On the other hand, you have to deal with sharing the word with people like Dawkins or even the late Hitchens who, although they are bright and often funny at times, are grade A pricks.

I prefer nontheist, as it more accurately encapsulates my lack of belief.

I come from an odd origin. Both sides of my family come from the same small town in Appalachia and are, for the most part, devout baptists. But my particular thread of the family are military so we moved around a lot. I got to see Western Europe, my cousins the Far East.

Not only was I exposed to different cultures, but different strains of Christianity. My civilian raised cousins only knew Baptist ideology and maybe Methodist, but viewed all other sects as wicked. Whereas I got to see the impact of the wars of the reformation, the albigensian crusade, the holocaust etc.

I abandoned my faith in my late teen years, like so many, after a detailed reading of the bible. The stark contrast between what the book said and what was practiced was appalling. And the book itself is full of evil and justifications of evil.

I went through a long period of seeking, during which I read most of the major "holy" books from the Quran to the Book of Morman, Dianetics to the Tibetan book of the Dead.

Now in my later years I most closely align with Mahayana Buddhism, in that I do believe in reincarnation and I do believe that there are wiser souls among us, working for the betterment of all. Although I must say I reject the concept of Pure Lands.

atheism is garbage just like organized religion is.... both think they know everything, when they know only what they are told, they never explore on their own so calling either intelligent is kinda funny to me.

but you all continue arguing which is better! :brownchicken:

It’s not the fact that I’m dumb or smart. I concluded that religion isn’t my thing. Am I saying there “can’t” be a god? No. There isn’t proof that convince me otherwise.

“It’s not what you know. It’s what you can prove.”
I just watched a bunch of youtube videos like everybody else.

its not always about what you can prove as if that was the case we wouldn't know anything, if people had that attitude in the past we wouldn't know about germs for instance.

am i saying theres a god no, but what i am saying is disregarding something because there is no proof is foolish

That is a good point. To assume there is no creator, great spirit, deity, whatever, is equally ignoring logic and science as much as someone who took a religion full on without proof. It is assuming either way.
