Despite being a KGB member Putin hated communism and still does hate communism and actively suppresses communist revivalists. Putin is a Keynesian, the same as essentially the entire rest of the world.

Communism destroyed Russias economy and Russia never recovered, which meant Russia and the USSR were never able to compete on an international level in the same way the Russian Empire could. A communist revival would just cause the same damage again, which is part of why Putin resists it.
