"Homophobia" and "Transphobia" are not real phobias ⛔
A phobia is a recognized medical condition classified as an anxiety disorder.

"Homophobia” and “transphobia” are not real phobias. They are not recognized in the medical or psychiatric community. The terms themselves are meaningless because no one on earth has ever received a clinical diagnosis of “homophobia” or “transphobia.” These are fabricated concepts.

Even the word “♥♥♥♥” (short for homosexual) has historically been used as a derogatory term toward gay people. Activists have cleverly combined a slur with the suffix of a legitimate medical condition to create loaded political weapons designed solely to silence anyone.

In reality, these are invented terms used to cancel or shut down any opposition. It is a gross misuse of medical language to shield a particular group.

I’ve never in my life seen anyone scream “heterophobia” or “straightphobia” just to victimize themselves. Straight people aren’t judged for their bedroom preferences, but for their actions and attitude towards the society they live in, like everyone else on this planet.

Freedom of speech exists, freedom from consequences does not.

We are constantly having political themed posts. Is raising awareness the misuse of a medical condition is a bad thing?

So they're not real phobias? So what? Do you just want to change words because you're offended by the conflation of two meanings?
You’re very close. They’ve tried to change the meaning of 'phobia' over the last few decades, just to use it as a shutdown tactic in discussions.

Tell me: if those things are not actual phobias, why keep the word 'phobia' in the term? Would you bully and insult an arachnophobe just because they’re terrified of spiders? Does that make sense to you?

This is just a repost of the old thread which got deleted and was nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to delegitimise the concepts of hatred and discrimination against the LGBT.

it's two sides to the same coin and you fools are being bought and sold by people who want to market hate and sway public opinion.
again? weird seeing this thing from a second person..

ah, well, anyways, to repeat what I said before, call it "hate against trans and/or gay people" then. also look up the damn meaning of the suffix "-phobia" it's just an odd, odd talking point.

I doubt it's a second person. This thread is OP's first post, which is a sure sign of an alt account when it's a thread like this.

Tell me which part is discrimination.

I don't know, I don't care about snowflake issues.
Calling people snowflakes who are living with an actual medical condition is actually discriminating and rude, thank you for being a prime example.
Why don't you complain about every word or expression that has a metaphorical/non-literal/symbolic meaning? Why are you okay with saying it's raining cats and dogs when it's not actually raining those animals from the sky? Why can you accept a workaholic not actually drinking their job?

Also no, phobia doesn't inherently mean "clinical diagnosis". The root from the Greek word means fear or aversion. Clinical phobias were named using that root because they describe specific fears, not the other way around. So using the same root to describe hostility toward a group is completely consistent with how language works. It's human nature to fear and distrust the unkown and that fear can subconsciously translate into prejudice and spite. The logic and idea behind these words is pretty straightforward without needing to be a linguist.

Also a misuse of a word doesn't make the word itself invalid. People get labeled 'racist' or 'Nazi' improperly at all the time but nobody argues those terms shouldn't exist because they can be misapplied.

Bad bait.

But gay people are. Judged, fined, jailed, and sometimes executed. I hear people most often go on witch hunts because of fear, so the suffix fits well. With all the phobias around one thing is clear — fear runs the world. Or did you forget the phrase "red scare"?
