Wicked: For Good Smashes Biggest Box Office Records since Barbie
This movie is basically led by women, about women, and like 70% of opening weekend crowds were women. It's about female friendship, identity, finding yourself, all that emotional stuff that the "go woke go broke" crowd have spent decades convinced "doesn't sell." Meanwhile it just became one of the biggest openings of the year.

It is proof that women's stories are commercially viable when Hollywood actually gives them the budget and marketing they deserve.

Turns out you don't need to cater to dudes to make half a billion dollars. You just need to make something good that resonates with the target audience.

i've genuinely not heard anything about the wicked movies aside from how freaky the cast are with eachother especially the two leads
Whilst im not its target audience, im pleased to see more female centric stuff out there.

im not sure we will gaze upon it as a Citizen Kane classic, but it does show how the industry as a whole is turning against the old, outdated norms.

Box office records are mostly made up. Someone wrote also about record sales and music charts back in the day. This is numerically provable.

Another fake news Arvaos thread making stuff up and not citing a source. But regardless of how well this movie does, cherry picking it over dozens of other failures doesn't "prove" your point. This is basically you throwing 25 darts at the board, managing to hit it 1 time, then saying, "see, I AM an expert at this game."
The trailer made the first one and this one look really stupid. Avoid them and save your money.

with the low quality of the usual threads, OPs are often more of a thoughtful take, even if i often hugely disagree with them.

Eh, it's overdone. They did the same with Alice. And there are several Oz books anyway. Not everything needs to be a "dark dream" death and rebirth descent into the abyss.

I'm glad green people are finally being represented in movies again.

i know and i love american mcgees alice and madness returns. i even sort of like the johnny depp films because they felt oddly dark in a similar, but less violent way. i have read some of the oz books, but most aspects of them are not especially dark.

i agree that not everything needs to be dark, but thats just what i like. horror and dark fantasy medias, this is what i consume and enjoy.
