Africa
Why does Africa remain underdeveloped?

My social studies teacher said white colonialism made Africa poor, and even though it ended, Africa is still exploited by wealthy nations with debt and especially policies like tariffs.

That's sad. It's basically our fault. Shouldn't Africa be getting more aid or something?

No one deserves anything. There is no such thing as justice, and therefore any pretext at civilization is hypocrisy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaoySOGlZ_U

has nothing to do with "white colonialism", thats western hate propaganda.

your teacher lied to you.

africa has been held down, with constant attacks by the likes of "boko haram" and similar, slaughtering people over religion, infrastructure constantly destroyed, etc.. by those whom hate western civilization and many other factors.

the above has been ongoing for decades, upon decades.

ask your teacher, to stop pushing propaganda in school and to properly teach the course they are there for, also tell them that they might need to learn history themselves, as it seems they dont have a clue.

in any case, they should be fired, if they cant be bothered to teach classes, instead of trying to be an activist, pushing activist agendas, to brainwash their students.

as for "aid to help", we have been doing that for multitudes of decades, along with building infrastructure, but it gets stolen, or destroyed...

just look at gaza, they were getting massive amounts of help, yet hamas stole it all, and syphoned it down into there 300+ miles of tunnels, to fund their terrorism, while using gazans as shields and as a "work force", to dig their tunnels...

which is why the help stopped.

also to add, america has been using tax payer money to fund areas like this, while watching it go down the drain, due to other forces, stealing and/or destroying what was built.

but also, we americans cant afford, to be giving our taxes to everyone and everything, under the sun.

have a nice

The Western development model, particularly that employed by the United States, created problematic dependency relationships that ultimately undermined African economic autonomy and sustainable growth. For decades, US and European engagement emphasised direct aid, humanitarian assistance, and structural adjustment programmes that prioritised political reform and governance conditionality over productive investment.

Over the past two decades, Chinese firms have constructed tens of thousands of kilometres of roads, built transformational railway projects including Kenya's Mombasa-Nairobi line and Ethiopia's electrified railway to Djibouti, modernised major ports across the continent, and addressed Africa's critical energy deficit through hydroelectric dams, solar installations, and power grid development.

Beyond infrastructure, China is facilitating Africa's industrialisation by relocating labour-intensive manufacturing to countries like Ethiopia, Egypt, Nigeria, and Tanzania as Chinese wages rise, while Chinese technology firms dominate Africa's telecommunications infrastructure and have accelerated mobile internet adoption through affordable devices.

China's investment model differs from traditional development assistance by emphasising loans, equity investments, and infrastructure-for-resources arrangements with fewer political preconditions and faster implementation timelines, making it attractive to African governments seeking visible results and reduced conditionality.

Because they have a different pace/idea of what life should be. I dont blame them it seems more simple.
Africa faces a complex set of challenges. Climate fluctuations - ranging from severe droughts to devastating floods - undermine agricultural productivity, while political instability discourages investment. For instance, instead of producing chocolate domestically, many countries export raw cocoa beans, only to import the finished chocolate at a much higher price. The continent relies heavily on imports for a wide range of goods, reflecting its dependence on foreign markets. Meanwhile, the manufacturing sector remains underdeveloped, a legacy of Africa’s colonial past.

Purely socioeconomic factors

I wonder why even in first world countries their areas turn out just as ruined and unsafe

There's a, believe it or not, a good'ish Chinese documentory titled "Empire of Dust" that you can probably find on youtube. It shows another view of the whole thing, the Chinese one, obviously. :P

No, that's not the case. What really hold Africa's back is massive immigration. If most of the young and smart peoples flee to richer countries, who will devellop their own country ? Massive immigration always was a trap for both europeans and africans, the two populations lose, for different reasons.

What happened to Africa ?

First they were ravaged by muslims, mosly the kingdom of Morroco who used firearms from Europe to destroy the african Empires that existed previously. Then, frenchs came in Algeria to stop pirates from north Africa who ravaged southern Europe for centuries, starting the colonisation process. Then, the colonisation was ended by communist groups backed by Russia, with a second wave more recently. And on top of all that, you can add massive immigration that digged Africa's grave a bit more, by taking the smarter ones out of their country.

And peoples still wonder why Africa is that much of a mess. Colonisation is only a small part of the problem in reality, the real problem is the never ending bad spot they're in.
Different countries have different culture. With different culture comes different values. Maybe they don't want to be like america

Thats a terrible oversimplification, does your teacher think wakanda existed and collapsed due to colonialism or something?
Most likely dictatorships like most poor countries

same goes for every other country, for example... america might not want to become like other countries.

just saiyan.

with that said, most of the issues over there has nothing to do with "whites" living there, or "other countires" aside from those, or peoples, whom are destroying african infrastructure, or slaughters them over being christains, major example being "boko haram".

have a nice day

I’m not an economist but I believe there is corruption and internal conflict that prevents Africa from advancing as fast as other nations.
