I don't like star trek TNG
I skipped season 1 and 2 because that is what everyone says should be done. I've watched season 3, 4 a good part of 5. I had some enjoyment getting to know the characters, but I don't think I can get 3 whole seasons of enjoyment, let alone 8.

I find that the crew don't have much friction. They are all real good friends with each other, and support each other almost always. Captain Picard is too perfect. I he keeps on solving problems that are impossible because he's perfect. He has a 95% success rate, and it never leaves me wondering whether the day will be saved or a disaster.

No, you won't like TNG then. Gene Roddenberry's entire vision of the future was of a united humanity which all worked together to successfully solve problems and where there was no friction.

All of which was completely thrown out for DS9. Watch that instead. Sisko hates Picard.
Ds9 is much better. After season 2.

Every Trek outside of ToS, has a terrible first two seasons.

This explains why Sisko hated Picard and blamed him:

Yeah, I saw that episode. I loved it because it was everything TNG is not. Why are you telling me?

this is why, op :steamthis:

it is gene roddenberrys vision of the future. picard and the crew are rather perfect, but that was how roddenberry hoped the future would be. folk working together despite differences, cooperation and unity over discourse. the discourse comes from the external problems they have to solve, and less from their interactions with one another.

picard being overly perfect well...i think that is just part of the tv show. hes the hero so he is often written to succeed or look cool and admirable.

Oh I forgot. There is one TNG episode where there is friction between the crew.

It's the one where Troi de-evolves into a frog.

It was a case where he was not perfect and roasted his crew as a Borg. :lunar2019grinningpig:
I never got into the series
I got way into the Original Series when I was younger, so re-run number 4,862 lol
With both, I definitely enjoyed their movies more - including their characterizations. The movies are still great fun.

Other people have talked about Roddenberry's vision already. Later DS9 was far more "realistic" alien prewpews than the utopia vision of humanity, in my opinion. I mean some of those storylines were very mature. The Dominion War really shone as far as Star Trek goes, for me. Writing, acting, effects - good stuff. Every side character had meaning and relevance and their own plotlines that fit in over time.
They even made me like some Ferengi!

I miss the naive optimism though, everybody are so serious and miserable real life oriented now.

This

What happens to us when we reject Wonder, in favour of dopamine hits and desensitization?
i still can get over the fact they are a society without money but they kept the structure of the Navy that was based on protecting money and stealing from other countries.....never OG star trek and Kirk screwing everything when they could not admit VD's would be a problem
