Sexism in Favor of Males
Does this mindset exist in your country? In ancient times it flourished both in East and West—for example, in the Greek city-states. I once thought of this illustration: suppose you are an emperor with vast realms and you grant your daughters the same right of succession. In a few generations the territory actually controlled by your dynasty would shrink drastically. Taken to the extreme, only your bed-chamber would still belong to you, because the princesses marry the leaders of other dynasties (or court nobles, regional lords, etc.) who deny inheritance rights to their own daughters, so the land remains in those patrilineal families. Yet that was the logic of feudal or early-capitalistic eras. Why does a similar mentality still exert such a strong hold on people today?I hope your comments won’t inflame any gender antagonism; I’m simply puzzled by how deeply this attitude is rooted and would like to discuss it with everyone.:Mirro_love:

A man and woman are like yin and yang - a balanced wheel rolling through time.
I saw the last vestiges of it in my life back around 1980 or so. I am part of a family with a very large number of US military officers. Although my aunt was already a captain when her older brother (my father) got his commission, his career was very much more important to the family. When she became pregnant they all pressured her to retire and raise the children. Her husband (a colonel) effectively replaced her in the social hierarchy of the extended family.

Is more or less about which faction among the 1% can monopolize the most amount of authentic power, be it politically, economically, scientifically, etc. per region / area of influence.
It has been like this since the invention of agriculture, with the creation of village chiefs and stuff, afaik :lunar2020thinkingtiger: Just that through history the power balance has shifted back and forth, nowadays since the Powell Memorandum (circa the 1970's decade), the other key breakpoint was the Citizens United fiasco (circa late 2000's - early 2010's), the upper echelons have gained an absurd amount of power since then.

Reminds me of the anime Naruto. The relationship between Shikamaru and Temari.

Elders in the Hidden Sand Village were hesitant about the marriage due to political implications. There was worry that if Gaara (the current Kazekage) did not have a child, Temari's son (a Konoha shinobi) would have a claim to the Kazekage title. They feared Konoha could then rule Sunagakure (Sand Village) indirectly through a "shadow puppet" leader.

If they start making games where the main characters whine, scream, cry over nothing, and emotionally manipulate everyone around them, sure, there will be TONS of games with women in them.

Not in my lifetime. Few if any clear instances come to mind. More the inverse.

I can only answer this from my own family tradition perspective. It’s simply because women are precious. There are times when women are simply helpless (aka pregnancy). They (and the babies) are vulnerable at this stage and absolutely need the help of their man. This is why the parents give the responsibility of taking care of the wealth to the males.

Women are also equipped with biological “features” that make them more suitable for parental job. Since leaving your own babies in daycare is still a foreign concept for many families, one of the parents still need to stay at home to take care of the children… and that will be the wife’s job.

So yea… the patriarchy concept in my family mostly came from the ideal view of how a family should work. It’s less abt power and inheritance (we’re too poor to worry abt inheritance lol)

Parts of Asia and the Middle East are still locked in Medieval times.

the mindset exists everywhere

"i don't think women are dumb, but i engage with very few of them. so I'm bound to treat them equally"

BTW, my post above isn't to imply I hate women even though I think women are psychotic, dangerous, and essentially automatons.

Here's the thing about media depictions of women... they're massively, hugely, insanely, ridiculously, blatantly overly positive. Like, my mom was literally a scary psychotic b!tch. I mean, i guess she was trying to make me into a "good person". I have no idea why because nobody else on this godforesaken planet is a "good person". Talk about double standards...

And every girlfriend I've ever had?? WOW. Literal unbridled psychopathy.

My opinion is that women are like those black people who get crazy real easy you know? They start jumping around and hootin and hollerin at the slightest provocation. Can't make jokes around them because their minds just don't work right... you know?

Anyway, I'm 100% sure this post will be reported as offensive.

Quite the opposite. Sexism in favor of women.

Women get a massive advantage in case of divorce. They are rewarded for starting the divorce, which they do for 70% of divorces.

Men are also defacto banned from certain easy jobs like sales clerk, receptionist and secretary.
