Just because it's a Japanese term, doesn't make it synonymous only with Japan as it exists elsewhere under different names (crunch culture, corporate America: overtime w/o rest), I recall the development of GTA VI having this from the developer's end or film studios (Hollywood) making actors, producers, etc. complete filming before meeting the deadline no mater how tight.
