So in my area of the state the two main internet service providers are WOW and Xfinity, we have had both over some years and I wanted to get some outside input from people who know more about internet/networking.

We had WOW for most things and got rid of the landline phone and cable after a while, and personally I hated WOW's speeds. Now I was using a old dell running windows vista off wi-fi cause it's what I had, but even when I got a Lenovo G505 it could take a whole day on a game over 60gb. Around 2021 we switched over to Xfinity, I finally built my pc and ran it off ethernet, Xfinity just felt like it blew WOW out the water. After some time on the contract, they tried to raise our bill on some bs and we ended up switching back over to WOW last year. They both run the same 55$/m for 500mbps deal for new customers, but WOW's internet doesn't seem to hold up to Xfinity IMO.

I've been thinking about switching back over to Xfinity but I don't my bill to change after a year, I've even looked at their policy and it states: "Requires both paperless billing and automatic payments with stored bank account (or additional $10/mo charge applies). Installation, taxes and fees, and other applicable charges extra, and subj. to change. After 1 year, or if any service is cancelled or downgraded, regular rate for internet applies."

Why can Xfinity claim they can raise my rates even though we never downgraded or cancelled until they tried to raise them? Would I just be better off paying more for a higher speed from my current carrier or would it be better to switch?

My last qualm with WOW vs Xfinity is the router, Xfinity gave us no issues. The router WOW provided constantly looses connection with my phone on both the 5GHz and 2.5GHz networks, same with my Samsung smart tv, and even my mothers phone. The router even reset itself one time changing the network names and passwords back to default and I had to reset everything again in the admin page. Could this be fixed by buying my own personal router?
