It's fairly simple, here's how I got my result (Though I don't know if this is the intended approach)

| 84+2.37=2410
| 8 + 4 = 12, this we only need temporarily
| 12 x 2 = 24
| 3 + 7 = 10
| Now 'squash'' together and you get 2410.

On the 'puzzle', desired example:
| 31+0.68= ?
| 3 + 1 = 4
| 4 x 0 = 0
| 6 + 8 = 14
| Now 'squash'' together and you get our 014
