Mahmood Mamdani, the father of New York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, is facing scrutiny online over his alleged statement in a 2004 book that suicide bombing as a tactic shouldn't be "stigmatized as a mark of barbarism."

He said: "Suicide bombing needs to be understood as a feature of modern political violence rather than stigmatized as a mark of barbarism. We need to recognize the suicide bomber first and foremost, as a category of soldier."

Now, to be fair, Mamdani is not his father. However, Mamdani was financially supported by his father throughout his entire 20s since he didn't have a real job, and he is still very close to his family. He has never once attempted to distance himself from their views.

I guess it´s how American politics work, no? Sooner or later someone shows up and says that Your brother´s mother in law´s uncle said something in 1969, and how dangerous this is. So everything You could possibly say - is dangerous as well.

Instead of worrying about this, one could also think about solutions for actual problems.

in 2004 this person recognized what is well known now

suicide bombers are a key part of some armies arsenal

not just some one offs from barbarians

in what way is that show of support?

Violent jihad is a command. It's a religious imperative to billions of people.

I don't know why this is some sort of shocking revelation.

Anyone with a reasonable amount of knowledge of 1,400 years of that particular history should be like "No duh. Of course he does."
