It probably can't even run GTA V at 4K60 Steam tech just isn't worth buying anymore.

The last good tech from Steam was the Valve Index, and even that has a issue with durability. Their new HMD for example is trash focused on standalone, untethered, powerless and portable, low FPS VR for the low-end user instead of gamers which is what this platform used to be for before the Steamdeck and the slew of Mobile game slop uploaded here.

No. But to be fair, no one outside rockstar has any clue what might run GTA6 at 4K ultra 60fps.

I think Valve saying "4K, 60 FPS" was a mistake, even if they did follow that with "with FSR". Now that's immediately what people will be scrutinizing, and every game that can't run at 4K, 60 fps will be used as "proof" of Valve having "lied".

Look at what happened with Google Stadia. They announced loud and proud, "4K, 60 FPS". People examined the games under a microscope and said, "That's not 4K. That's 1800p. Google is lying scum!"

A 5090 can't even do native 4K, ultra, at acceptable frame rates on some games.

The Steam Machine will be able to play modern games just fine. Just temper your expectations. It's not going to compare to your $2000 desktop. It's probably going to be $500-$600, and it's using relatively modest, mobile chips. I would guess that GTA VI will be fine at 1080p on medium settings, no RT, and you can upscale to FSR to match your TV's resolution. That's speculation though because we have no idea what GTA VI will require on PC.

the steam machine hilarious as is will not be able to properly run 4k 60 fps , Maybe if u play old classics on it that are atleast 10 years old... seriously advertising fails so hard nowadays... , my beast of a desktop cant keep solid 60 fps on 4k in new games so (sure games a couple years older like dark souls 3 , Maaaaaaaaaybe elden ring (not the dlc) and thats where that ends) i mostly play max 2k or 1k max sets capped to 60 fps , goodluck steam machine xD (0 chance)

Nobody understands hardware?? it will be fine, the AMD 6 core with zen 4 will run faster then anyone thinks and a rubbish nvidia is lucky too properly run anything LOL. GTA 6 will not be a hardware leech. Most games on steam the requirements are nothing, seems most get game requirements mixed up with business requirements. Besides GTA 6 is looking like it will be a big cash grab.

What is the steam machine?

Considering it is "supposed" to be similar to a base PS5, and even PlayStation fans wonder if the game can run on their system, I doubt it would be 4K 60 FPS if it did run. The Steam Machine seems more focused on running current games, not ones without a release date that keeps changing to sometime in the future. Borderlands 3 might be a better comparison, it was a unoptimized mess when released, so will be a better target for unoptimized Unreal Engine 5 games.
