Trump and donors are paying for it. Why should I care? If it isn't costing the taxpayer money (which it isn't) and they are making the White House look and perform better I am all for it.

The destruction and construction are literally happening; I'm not sure you understand what "hoax" actually means.
As for "look and perform better," that's an aesthetic--and therefore wholly subjective--call. It's clearly a vanity project, and is demolishing over a century of history to satisfy one man's ego. That is deeply pathetic, but it's just more of the "daddy never told me he respected me" crap that has driven pretty much all of Trump's life.
