He's a good choice.
Until it gets broken when you realize he has a gambling addiction/problem (something a lot of people have) and he's so bad with managing money he has to sell off his old weapons in order to make ends meet.

Worse part of it is that if it's not gambling, he's spending it all on pizza and booze... or whenever Lady or Trish decided to screw him over by making him pay for something that they bought (the *******).

He may kick ass and make devils cry but more often than not he get's humbled by the unfortunate reality that we all face in real life which makes the scene of him threatening Mephisto with a counter offer job more funny cause Dante doesn't care about the past and only looks forward to the future... which involves him doing a lot of fighting and a lot of bills until that past decides to show up cause the plot demanded something to happen.

...Doesn't help the fact that he now stuck in hell for a very long time like how Megaman volnutt got stuck on the moon for over 2 decades at this point. It's so bad even the Archie comics made a sad bad joke about it.

Personally I would say whoever can do power poses while fighting, about to fight, does it during the fight to style on them without getting heavily nerfed by massive debt, and whoever can look badass for a cover art for a game, book, and movie.

...Unfortunately most of the characters I like who can be awesome are in franchises that are either neglected, forgotten, or fallen by the wayside due to poor decisions by the company they are owned by.
