Easiest for all companies to work wiyh; they are legally allowed to process all personal data from that age (in the EU).
But definitely not the crazy way Yubo works with dividing 13–17 and 18–9999.
But social media should be banned entirely or have a time counter for how long one can spend on it lol
I don´t know how it works in other countries, but here You need to be 18 to sign the contract to participate in the web, or rather to get a telecommunication contract. One could of course use certain other, public, entry points, but all in all people below 18 can basically only participate if they have the permission from someone who is 18+, or able to sign said contract. So i for myself don´t really see the problem - even if they also discuss such stuff here. Seems that they think that the 18+ people are not responsible enough. Which makes the point of having it 18+ obsolete, when it doesn´t matter how old You are, because You´re always too immature to handle the web, which is probably true for at least 25% of the population anyways.
If it was about me, there would be more transparency and education about the web in school - combined with certain teaching that not all people are nice, that not all companies are nice, or all authorities, or how to handle certain situations, or how security works, or to which offices they can send certain issues, or which sites are okay for certain age groups, and which should be avoided. That would probably also prevent the one or other "my account was hacked because i gave my data to some random person who asked for it, but he said he´s a steam moderator on discord."
there isnt any guarantee that any conversation cant go wrong and cause damage to listeners anywhere.
including words from parents.
but I mostly use Internet or legal system, so yes.
But saying that I've had the most problems with old people on social media than young.
