Why is PC hardware so unreliable?
Over the years I've had about a dozen gaming PCs and with every single one of them I've experienced weird one off bugs related to hardware that don't seem to happen with consoles. Like one day I'll turn my PC on and my mouse, keyboard and monitor just won't turn on, like no explanation whatsoever they just won't light up and come alive.

I restart the PC and boom, everything comes alive like normal. Then 2 months later it will randomly happen again.

Or I'll be playing a game perfectly fine for weeks on end then out of the blue for no reason at all my PC will just hard restarted, no bsod no error message just everything goes black and it restarts.

For the most part my PCs have been reliable but occasionally the hardware just randomly fails, seemingly for no reason at all.

This never happens with a cell phone or a console or a car or whatever. Usually when those things break once, they're broken completely and need fixing at a shop. But with PC hardware things can fail and never work perfectly fine for the next 2 months again.

It's so weird.

PSU failure?
I won't be on the PC for long.

Usually when you want to get it turned on, the max number of drinks you want to give it is one or two. Beyond that, they can get really sloppy and things can go in not the best directions.

Now maybe some flattering lighting can help. I like light extra bright- but in some situations it is better to dim it a bit. Perhaps change the temperature from cool to warm.

Again, it's gonna depend on the situation. Sometimes when it's hot enough, you just go for it.

In other cases you gotta warm it up. Maybe start with a massage. Now if it doesn't respond to that, then probably it;s a lost cause and it's probably best to just move on at that point.

The truth is when it looks at you, you just are gonna know. When you really have it turned on, you really won't have to do much at all. It's just gonna be THERE.

If not, maybe just move on to the next one.
What company are you buying from? Every time I have bought AMD or ATI (though ATI is also AMD now) I had issues, whereas Intel and Nvidia have always been tanks.

I owned and use PC for years and I never had any issues that major. Where are you getting your PCs from?
Sounds like a short to me.

Or you have a ghost pushing the reset button to irritate you.
maybe a boot issue / corrupted sectors.

Never have issues with my builds custom builds I expect it happens more to pre built systems since they cut corners. Only ever small tiny issue is since getting the 5090 boot prefers i turn the monitor on first and wait for splash screen before power button. Other than that never an issue, last issue i had like yours was a win 98se pc. It helps to have main parts quality such as psu is important it can destroy an entire pc always have the top tier this one 1600w platinum all cables single use on psu + cpu top end braided. Put the money in and a pc will last forever.

All my parts are good quality branded stuff.

Asus 4070 gpu, amd 7800x3d, samsungs ssds, corsair rams, corsair psu, noctua heatsink etc. I know how to build PCs and have built many.

It doesn't happen often, but occasionally once every few months my PC will just say "nope" and act weird for a few minutes before behaving like it should.

strange, you have a good build but though this may sound extremely stupid.... you have not dropped a screw while building? be shocked how much problems it can cause. Or missing a screw on the mobo backing mounts can oddly have the same issues.
Just as something that is a wild shot in the dark, does your PC futz out and blue screen and force reset itself while you're playing Dirt Rally 2.0? It's a known problem with that game. Confused the ♥♥♥♥ out of me for ages until I found that out, I thought my PC was dying.

No.

For example last week I booted up my PC and my monitor, mouse and keyboard just refused to come alive. Totally dead. I restart my PC and hey presto, they come alive and everything is normal.

What would cause such a strange random one off bug like that?

Then today I was playing overwatch 2 pc running fine no issues and without warning my pc restarts. It's not an overheating issue because if it were, when I boot back up it would display a cpu overheating warning message.
I have had around 3 ps3 break on me. One pc with issue. My pc atm is second hand and i really like it, no issues
I have received not one but multiple red rings of death. Did you see the exploding phones?
I build PCs fairly regularly with used parts from our favourite auction sites and I don't struggle with weird issues. Even when I've purchased a "for parts not working" 6750xt gpu. Just needed a serious clean some thermal pads and paste and it's not missed a beat now in 18 months.

Are you buying cheap pre-builds with mismatched components? Bait and switch tactics with cheap motherboard, budget cpu and an Nvidia logo to hook people in to thinking it's a great deal.

The dead keyboard and such problem can be caused by so many different motherboard and PSU problems that it's almost impossible to diagnose and you'd have to go through them 1 by 1.

And your PC randomly restarting is something that can be caused by counterfeit components (which are a widespread problem, if you've never heard of them before). They're old or cheaper components that have their firmware flashed to tell your bios that they're something else (ie a GTX 1060 that's been flashed to say it is a RTX 4070). They can run fine (though obviously with worse performance than you should be expecting) but if the system ever tries to call a component or function that just isn't there the system ♥♥♥♥♥ the bed and force restarts.

It would be unlikely, since you say it has happened over multiple PCs that you have built, but if you always use the same suppliers then that could explain that.

A real simple solution that just seems to fit is that you're damaging components as you're putting them in. An improperly mounted CPU can also cause both kinds of issues for example. But then those problems should happen more often than once every couple of months. But at the same time if you have your PC on the same desk that your mouse and keyboard are on even small movements of the desk shake the PC and can cause intermittent loss of contact if you've not seated a component properly.

To be honest the best solution would just be to find a repair shop near you with a good reputation and have them look at it.
