How would warfare change if we found a reliable way to stop nukes?
Let’s say a force field or maybe a defense system that can easily destroy nukes before they land. It doesn’t just have to be nukes. Let’s just say they neutralize long range weapons like ballistic missiles too with 99.99 percent accuracy. Would the world become more unstable or peaceful and why?

For me… idk.

Then nukes would become obsolete and a new kind of ultimate weapon would appear.
Go play Command & Conquer and you'll have your answer. In C&C they use an ion cannon which is basically a giant satellite that shoots a massive laser beam down at the earth that can wipe out an entire nation. It isn't just so sci fi thing either, it could actually be made irl. It would just take quadrillions of dollars and a ridiculous amount of materials and man power to make.
This is what world of Dune basically was - personal force fields made high-velocity projectile weapons useless so they used knives and swords to slowly penetrate high-impact shields.

Mankind would go that far to end each other?

But more likely new ways to make nukes still relevant, such as new delivery systems like stealth missiles.

Forcefields are such advanced tech for us right now that it may as well be magic.

While possible and probable, you can't make such a big satellite that can't be shot down from Earth. An orbital laser cannon would be destroyed with missiles fired from Earth and would never be a thing.
I mean we have weapons which are more dangerous than nukes. There are chemical or biological weapons. The idea is to never use them though - and for some odd reason they are rarely or never used.

But You could erase whole populations which them without much harm to the infrastructure. Some might be hard to control, or get out of control...

Nukes are seen as dangerous, because they create a big explosion, and some might dislike the radiation, and reaching immortality by becoming a ghoul. But You can´t see chemical or biological weapons - so they´re unspectacular.

In general it´s more about propaganda though. Like, psychological warfare.

Like: what if we have weapons to defend against nukes, which is the reason why they´re never used. Because if they would use them, and the other country would successfully defend - then the statistics that countries rarely declare war on a country which has nukes, might go in the bin.
I think the most immediate effect would be India and Pakistan falling into a deep depression

'Rods from God' also come to mind.

Not missiles in the conventional sense. Solid 'telephone pole-sized' tungsten-steel rods, shaped for re-entry and guided to targets via satellite/GPS. They are hypersonic, will be many times faster than today's fastest missiles, and will potentially hit far harder, as they will originate from a satellite in Earth's orbit.

A weapon system like that, which has been conceived already decades ago and may even exist, promises to be almost unstoppable with existing, and even theoretical tech like anti-missile lasers.

Nothing can be safe from missile barrages fired from the surface.
If no one got nukes war will be more common nukes kinda keeps wars colder rather than a bloodbath
by taking them out.. in what way do you see than ending well?

option A.. you somehow can locate all other nations nukes and with a single shot destroy them all in their bunkers...
***what is going to prevent them from building new ones?
***and all those nukes exploding will create a nucleair winter.. and fallout that will also cause problems in your own nation...

option B you 100% can shoot them out the air.. again.. that means they explode or if not you explode a dirty bomb.. which will rain down... if not on your nation than on the ocean or europe or whatever nation is between you and them... times 1000.. again with dire consequences...
**
neither would be what you want... plus it would not prevent the nuke in orbit that would emp your entire nation.

also interception of missiles would still not exclude locally ignited bombs (suitcase bombs)

but ok lets surpass believability and go into science finction... what we are not even close to inventing but could be possible presume you have created a bacteria or nanite that eats radiactive material and somehow renders it inert/changes it in a non radiactive atom.. (controilled cold fission).. well it only work if you let it eat everything so you also loose nucleair powerplants including those on your aircraftcarriers and submarines. as well as nucleair isotopes for medical treatment..

well than.. it will be more likely people go attack.. as conflicts turn more conventional.,.

chemical warfare and biological warfare is the first though... they went away alongside nucleair... with nucleair gone.. you can bet they are back on the menu.... especially with the advances in bioenginering.. you want a disease that only kills people with 1 speciffic gene... aka 1 speciffic race.. you can....

than there are ideas like a satelite with tungsten rods in a satelite in orbit... they would have about a 10kt impact.. thats as much as a small nuke...
-> magnetic guns able to fire off such rods on land still are problematic.. we can build them.. but the barrel is unusable after few shots... the power requitements are insane (so much that even a nucleair powered ship would not produce enough power to carry one)
and the capacitors burn.. in other words.. we cannot create a functional usually one.. YET

and we also see more bombs like the bunker buster being made..

no need to create a
Just how many countries would have this new defensive system?
Because if only the nuke holder have it, it won't change much. They can bully everyone else like before.

But if everyone have it, an unlikely scenario.
Then the war of conquest begins. If you live in a weak country then I hope you earn a quick death instead of being slaves.

Nukes we got today can sorta kill nations best part no radioactive remains so you can settle the dead ash filled waste land the heatwave makes not sure why we made bombs strong enough to turn earth to mars but we did
