They were Revolutionaries in the literal of terms.
Much like the Left that followed in other revolutions.
The conservatives or "Tories' were loyal to the King, who were for the conservative values.
No doubt that they would be far closer to current Republicans than Democrats, though.
When those two parties were first founded, the names were reversed. Early "Republicans" had policies that people would associate with modern "Democrats," and vice versa. Then they switched many decades later, basically arbitrarily.
Just in case anyone still believes it isn't a dog-and-pony show.
oh dear. well in that case i would say they would assuredly fit right in in current politics, unfortunately.
Well you had Sam Adams, that if he saw what Trump was doing today, would call for property destruction and embracing antifa.
You had John Adams, that would be citing this a "tyrannical government" given Trump sending troops in our cities if he were King George. And circumventing the very congress he helped create.
You had Tom Jefferson, that was against the idea of a Republic altogether.
You had Alexander Hamilton, that came out with the first national bank if only to pay back the French but believed in the barter system (which is more considered socialism before its time).
You had Paul Revere, that Trump would castigate a traitor who should be indicted, reporting that ICE were coming, in a whole country made up of illegal immigrants, at least accordingt to the King.
And of course Washington, who did not even believe in a military, and disbanded it after the war, as if not to become Europe and their lusts for war.
In short, even by the standards of then or today, they do not represent the GOP as it is today.
In fact, they'd be calling for another Tea Party under this guy.
Sadly none of them had the vision to see that all those safeguards can simply be ignored if you have unscrupulous enough person and dumb enough followers.
The East India Company FLAG is the same as today's USA flag except the corner changed showing a change in management. The USA is a Corporation.
