What is is an observation. Why is is understanding. We observe magnets so we know what they are, but we do not fully understand why the universe is the way it is, so we do not fully understand why a magnet does what we observe it to do.
Such happy times.
also, we kinda understand how magnets work, we can even reproduce the effect with limited results in non-magnetic materials and we can also build electric magnets.
So, we KNOW WHAT magnets are. We still struggle to fully understand HOW they work.
And china doesn't have ALL THE MAGNETS in the world. Chances are, if you start to dig a hole anywhere, eventually you'll run into a magnet.
The mystery is understanding why charge exists and why a moving charge causes electricity.
