Game companies need to announce games at most a year before release.
This trend of announcing games years, or heck almost DECADE before the game releases need to end.. I understand they do it for their investors, but they can tell them in without announcing it to the world. Bethesda just said today that Elder Scrolls VI is "Still a long way off". The announcement for the game was 7 YEARS AGO! What did they do all this time? Seriously, just announce the game months, or at most a year before release from now on.

I mean they don´t really need to announce it. It´s most likely that they would release another Elder Scrolls game. So why should they say that they wouldn´t do it? Obviously people will ask for it anyways.
It's just a marketing strategy to build hype.

Its a dumb decision because the hype dies down 5 years after its been announced. Hell GTA6 is losing hype after all the delays.
I don't want to sound rude.

But I think game companies know better than any of us how to generate hype within the general public.
It's now been longer since the announcement of TES 6 than it was from the announcement back to the release of TES 5.

All I can do is shake my head and watch my Cynicism level cap increase.

People enjoy waiting a long time to be disappointed and being able to whine about the obvious disappointment on forums.
I dunno, this used to be a problem but it seems like these days if you're not Silksong, they announce these things way too late.

well, i dono about a specific timeline like "1 year", but certainly games should not be announced before they are well into development.

if they have nothing to show off, not even a proof of concept or nothing...then aye, let it simmer for some time before showing us.

Are you sure about that? Been so many flops lately that could of sold better with better marketing.
Silly rule because they'd just announce them a "year before release" and then just keep postponing release year after year lol
What are you going to do? Make it illegal for them to finish their product?

Not saying every company are competent at it. But, in general, yes they know more.
Usually the marketing department spends more than the game developers.

The really amazing part is that GTA 6 has any hype at all.

The entire creative team that was solely responsible for the success of every Rockstar title from GTA to Bully to Red Dead.... they have ALL left and been replaced by fresh hires who are far more likely to cater to the whims of their non-gamer, anti-consumer, greed focused bosses at TakeTwo.

Remember they're the ones who think that 1 billion dollars per year of profit just off of shark cards alone is an "under monetized" disappointment.

GTA 6 is going to be the lowest quality, most bug infested, glitch ridden, least polished game that Rockstar has ever released.

As far as Elder Scrolls. Your mistake is getting hyped for any Bethesda game before launch. Bethesda releases the most broken and buggy games, relying solely on mod makers to fix the most basic of problems.

People should treat the launch of any Bethesda game as if that's when it's announced, then wait at least 6 months after release for the mod makers to fix all the basic issues plaguing the game.

It's beyond stupid to pre-order any Bethesda game.
