What will it look like if pre-2013/early 2010s/2000s internet was brought back?
Looked promising. Not anymore.

Nobody owes you anything. Go to actual school if you want a lecture, and stop sealioning off-topic.

2000s would be nice, but 2008 onward there were signs it was going south (imo, social media, smart phones etc etc).

I find forums were more community-oriented and helpful. I learned how to build my first PC at 10 years old from online tutorials posted on forums. Arguing was mostly frowned upon and political nonsense wasn't usually entertained the way it is now.

And not everyone and their mother was insincerely and redundantly demanding sources for every sentence and opinion uttered (see poster above me).

It's a lot harder to have a conversation on public forums now.

Going to sound like a hot take, but I don't miss it at all.

People have nostalgia for it because of it being """apolitical""" (aka having racist, sexist, and anti-lgbt antisocial white dudes who got applauded for saying slurs), but it was rampant with pedophiles and malware. On youtube, there was a CP ring where grown men would gaslight young girls into taking nudes of themselves and one committed suicide over it.

People think that Roblox grooming is bad now, but it was 100x worse back then. A bunch of creepy men would go into sites like Habbo Hotel and Club Marian groom monors by asking for their ASL/msn.

Flash games were great, but this era is objectively better. Free engines, better UX, better software that doesn't crash, and no stupid drm like SecuROM

This is not reasonable or honest.

Anyway we can bring it back but it requires some effort and to grow some balls about seizing control from the people running it now. The guy above crying about white people is a big part of the problem

Host your own website. Don't sell ads. Make it look however you want.

Not to mention that a lot of people had social media like Myspace back then. Your most normie classmates would code their blogs in HTML/CSS from scratch lmao. If there was anything that I liked about the era, it was that creatives were encouraged to make stuff from scratch. It still exists though, it is just that minorities like PoC and LGBT people are doing it now.

A lot of people discussed politics back then too, it was just more libertarian and conservative leaning because it had a bunch of white dudes who didn't have the lived experiences of minorities.

^ This person is proving my point from my original post. Unironically being racist and committing misandry while trying to call out racism just for the sake of an argument.

You referred to people as normies.. there is no way you're an adult. You definitely were not around back then.

Good guess though, but you're wrong.

It's time to move onto the next discussion.

For what? Pointing out that it was filled with racist pedophiles? It still is, Elon Musk runs Twitter now.[futurism.com] You have nothing to worry about.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. My OG forum growing up was run by Turks and drunken Finns…. Nothing wrong with that

What is this SJW garbage? Not to mention that the internet was not actually as racist as many people think back then. The actual "radicalisation" of the internet started around 2016 and was relatively fringe before that. I don't know why you had to bring your weird worship of "minorities" into this conservation and in places where it doesn't even make sense (who, exactly, are making these HTML sites that are only out of my sight because they belong to a non-white non-straight group? considering that I am a member of the former, you seem to be making this up for internet points. Neither have I seen much of the latter, and where it does exist, it exists only in a form that is easily dispensable for nostalgia points and thus has no importance to what I am talking about in this thread)

Misinformation, which became so rampant from 2016 onward it earned its own name PTE (Post Truth Era). This put pressure on forums and media to reign it in, shutting down forums like Yahoo and PBS. I can see it happening in OT soon if politics takes over completely.
I don't see how online made anything easier either. In many cases it has left you without ample customer support as AI increasingly replaces people with chatbot. Scams are omnipresent as people are getting more relaxed with their online activities. Lastly, the bombardment of fake AI videos and AI art and music are increasingly pushing aside reality and diversity. There is an underlying sameness affecting everything it touches.
Oh, almost forgot. The more we rely on AI the less we use our brains. Evolution will eventually render us redundant as AI takes total control. That could be in as little as 100 years given the pace of technological advancement over the last 200 years.
