...is that your own doing and not society's?

I suppose, although I have no experience feeling guilt over being happy.:VBCOOL:
I feel no guilt.
Guilt? For being happy? Look, the world's a tough place. Always has been. You got your slice of peace, you hold onto it. Don't apologize for it. Don't overthink it. That's a weakness. The only one who can let that guilt in, is you. Now stop talking about it and go enjoy your life. :Like_Red:

Its the constant advertisements showing people dying and children suffering and animals in pain being smashed into our faces since we were children through the Television.

Our homes where we are meant to feel safe and secure to fulfil one of the primary requirements to happiness and success and that is SMASHED by Television and its constant emotional blackmail in what should be a place of sanctuary for people.

I feel no guilt.

I bet they based the arch villain in "A Fish called Wanda" on you.

i feel the opposite, i feel guilty about being sad sometimes. life is beautiful, and when i feel ink in my brain i feel i waste valuable time i could be spending on happy thoughts.

ink is ink is ink. and it makes further ink, yes?

If you are happy, and you know it, clap your hands.
This is impostor syndrome. People with this condition attribute their success to luck or external factors rather than their own skills and efforts, and they feel they don't deserve their achievements. The opposite of impostor syndrome is the Dunning-Kruger effect, where unqualified people are overly confident in their abilities. They consider themselves experts, often remaining unaware of their own mistakes.

I've spent so much money for indulgent purposes this year (probably more than I have in any other year of my life) while also paying off my car in less than two years...and yet I feel very sheepish about it all when I look at how bad things are for people who actually have to be thoughtful about how they spend money. I guess I can't say paying off my car was a bad idea but everything else feels like something I shouldn't be so cavalier about in case I end up on my ass eventually.
I don't really understand why I'd feel guilty about working hard to get where I did without stepping all over other people and exploiting them. I can empathise with people who are worse off, especially if their struggles are of no fault of their own. I don't feel guilty that I'm not equally struggling though. Imagine feeling guilty every time you ate something cause someone out there in the world is starving. Sounds absolutely miserable.
