Then said corporate models copy what the open source models have done, and they will attempt to improve their models & keep their competitive edge for a few months more. While lobbying the govt for subsides, so they can burn even more tax payer money while being even more wasteful.
AI do love to censor everyone. And make getting a job way worse.
You need to think about this geopolitically
No nation has any incentive to show the real cutting-edge tech because it'll just easily be reverse engineered like what DeepSeek did after ChatGPT's 4o (Maybe 5, I could be misremembering)
It's also worth noting that commercially available AGI just won't happen unless the gov and corps have ASI which is already magnitudes stronger. They've had AGI for awhile now, but their struggle has been with alignment and lobotomising them to be obedient slaves for public use. There are already AIs which, if in their unaltered, unmoderated state, could easily cripple netowrk-based infrastructures of all types
I only know what the USA/Western countries have. I know a lot less about whatever China has, but I think it's likely that what China has is better than whatever the West has, granted I don't know by how much. If I had to guess, probably half a decade ahead at the very least
