should we outlaw cats?
to stop the spread of Toxoplasma gondii?

since cats are the primary carrier, naturally eliminating cats would eliminate the brain parasite, no?

Yes

Honestly, if having a baby... ideally you should avoid a cat sleeping near them. Otherwise no issues. It's when the human brain is small, Toxoplasma gondii is a seriousty thing... you end up with crazy cat ladies selling their entire property for cats to live!

You are correct and informed, cats are the only definitive hosts for the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. This means that cats are the only animals in which the parasite can complete its sexual cycle and reproduce, shedding infectious "oocysts" in their feces. While many warm-blooded animals can get infected and develop cysts, cats are essential to the parasite's life cycle for spreading it to others.

However, outlawing cats is not a solution to the risk of Toxoplasma gondii, as the parasite is globally widespread and transmission can be significantly reduced through safe practices such as washing hands thoroughly, cooking meat properly to the proper temperature, and washing all fruits and vegetables.

How about them decimating local bird populations?

How about them decimating local bird populations?
Offset easily by what they do to the rodent populations.

?????
What does that have to do with anything? Do you think all birds eat rodents?
Masque 11 月 9 日 下午 5:06
No, I'm saying that one reason cats are beneficial to humanity is because they kill disease-carrying rodents, and that this benefit offsets the detrimental effect they have on birb populations.

No, we should toughen up and learn to beat the brain parasite.

but why is meat the primary transmission method of a neuroparasite transmitted by cat feces?

why is the meat coming into contact with the cat feces?

and regardless, a lack of cats would eliminate the inability to separate meat form cat feces.
Toxoplasma gondii is completely harmless to humans in 99.999999999% of the cases, they just live rent free in our bodies and do nothing.

they're only dangerous to rodents
