FD&C Red No. 40, or simply Red 40, also known as Allura Red AC, is a synthetic red food dye used to add color to many processed foods, beverages, cosmetics, and medications. While it is approved as safe by the FDA, some studies such as the one conducted by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) in 2021,[oehha.ca.gov] have raised concerns about its potential links to hyperactivity and inattentiveness in children, DNA damage, and allergic reactions.

I think it's also a dye added into gasoline. Or maybe that's just diesel.

No, the food coloring Red 40 (Allura Red AC) is not added to gasoline. While both Red 40 and the dyes used in gasoline are petroleum derivatives, they are different chemical compounds designed for different applications. Red dye is added to dyed diesel for tax purposes, indicating it's for off-road use and exempt from certain road taxes. The dye is a chemical identifier which usually comes from Solvent Red 26 and is not the same as the common food additive Red 40 (Allura Red AC).

sugar and caffeine are 2 of the most additive substances on the planet....
Remember when folks actually didn't spew a bunch of crackpot nonsense constantly about baseless health info? There's always been contingents about that I guess but now it's gone mainstream perhaps.
