Which may have worked in the times of the founding fathers. But in modern societies and military that part has become a feelgood lullaby for conservatives.

I've lived smack dab in the middle and all around Flint, Michigan. Finally leaving. However, our demographics can go from hood to redneck country boy in 10 miles any direction.

It's pretty common here that everyone is recommended to own a weapon, but you're highly unlikely to be a victim of a crime as an outsider, or someone who minds their own business.
Gun violence is usually personal, and quite frankly, instigated by systemic issues.
