Top 20 Fav Anime
Lets assume we all love the classics: (in no particular order)
Everything done by Studio Ghibli
Ghost in the shell (everything)
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Bebop
Full Metal Alchemsit (both versions)
Hunter Hunter
Attack on Titan
DBZ
One piece
Naruto
Death Note
One Punch Man
Soul Eater
Inuyasha
Bleach
Sailor moon

I have consumed copious amounts of anime in my life and truly love
the art, humor and story telling. Let's hear some of your favorite series
that are not in the classic list if you please. If I list all my favorites there
won't be much left for anyone to suggest so I will try to limit it.

I left out stand alone movies like akira but feel free to include w/e you like.

The first anime I ever watched (yes I am an old fart) was called crying freeman. It will always
have a special place in my heart, it was also the first anime I had ever seen with nudity.
My friends were into DBZ before there were even dubs for it, so I have seen most of the
OG episodes, not so much after that.
I will never forget watching Ghost in the shell (original) and freaking out about how ahead
of it's time it was, and how all of the stuff in it would come true sometime in the future.

I'll start off with comedy.
Golden Kamuy. the humor doesn't get good until the later seasons but wow, I have never laughed so hard in my life watching anime.
Shin Chan, always loved the writing/humor
Gintama, classic... sooo many episodes to watch
I don't want my list too long so I will stop it there.

Toradora. I love slice of life and romance anime as well, this one was fun to watch, also
Spice and Wolf (both versions are very similar but enjoyed them)
Your lie in April. never cried so hard
Your Name
A Sign of Affection
Snow White with the Red Hair
Kaguya-smam: love is war
Ok I guess I have seen most romantic anime that is dubbed and loved most of them so I will stop with that.

Black Butler. I have studied a lot about the occult (after all they run this world) and really enjoyed this one. as with most anime, the first seasons are always the best, but I still re-watch this sometimes.
Physco Pass and Darker than black, remind me of each other and both great.
Durarara!! I love the writing and concepts, very fun series. who doesn't love a headless hot chick on a sport bike (I ride a hayabusa)
Monster. I love philosophical anime that makes you think, also mystery's.
Magi: Adventures of Sinbad
Dan Da Dan was fun, although the first episode had me worried it was a lil too ecchi for me it wasn't bad
Solo Leveling and Shangri-La Frontier were fun to watch (waiting on next year to continue)

There are many more I love but If I think this is a solid start. Hopefully when can get suggestions of series that are no so popular or at least not as well known.
So let's hear it, what do yall got? I have been looking for new series to watch
or ones I haven't watched in years so, SPEAK UP PLEASE!

Loved all 3 of them my friend, excellent picks. I love how a regular joe schmo gets caught up with the crew in black lagoon. Gurren is a classic and egro proxy was DEEP!

Top 20 is too much. I'll just list something I like that is not mentioned.

Aria.
Parasyte.
Grand blue.
School rumble.
Rurouni kenshin.

Maybe next year liar game, because manga is great. Dunno if the production will be good though.

i do not watch much anime, and when i do usually anime films. prefer reading manga.

- "berserk" is my favourite manga and favourite media of all time, but also the 1997 berserk anime series is amazing. however it only covers a very small portion of the story, so it is more of a bonus. avoid the 2016 series, its garbage. also avoid the golden age films, at least at first. they have some good in them, but they should not be viewed before tasting the sublime of the manga or the 97 series.

- if you like monster i also recommend "homunculus" and "goodnight punpun". they have similar psychological horror themes and aesthetic, and realistic art styles. homunculus has no anime adaption, but it does have a live action film. punpun is strictly manga only.

- "vagabond" is probably my second favourite manga of all time, and the only thing that comes as close as "perfect" to me as berserk. no anime adaption for vagabond, manga only.

- "parasyte" and "i am a hero" are two great horror manga, and the former has had massive inspiration on the genre as a whole. parasyte received a pretty good anime adaption titled "parasyte -the maxim-". its good overall, but makes some changes from the manga i do not like. "i am a hero" does not have an anime adaption, but it does have an extremely fun live action film.

if you liked durarara you will probably also love "baccano", which is made by the same author. there is an anime adaption of baccano that is very enjoyable, but like the "berserk" anime it only covers a very small amount of the story overall. the light novel series for baccano (and durarara) are both very good.

some anime films i recommend:

- akira
- perfect blue
- gyo
- bio hunter
- ninja scroll
- lily CAT
- vampire hunter D: bloodlust
- end of evangelion (requires watching the original series first, it is a finale)
- paprika
- wicked city

Attack on Titan

Since I am not a weeaboo it's the only anime I have ever watched. Pretty good, all things said.

awesome post, thank you so much!
berserk should be another classic like appleseed or wolfs rain, but I didn't want list too many.
when i first saw the name Vagabond, i thought it was Vinland Saga (which I love very much) but after looking it up, I have never seen it. Thanks for the other suggestions too, I did watch parasyte but I haven't seen baccano or most of your suggestions, much appreciated!

I only own one anime shirt, and its from attack on titan, lol. ex-gf bought it for me a long time ago. The funny part about that anime is, if you really look into it, there is a lot of evidence that giants were real, not to mention what the Bible has to say about it. In fact, a lot of major anime has aspects that are real in both ancient and current history.

Like how in one piece people can control weather or how the top bad guys are controlled by the gov, or like in hunter hunter having trees that are 25k feet tall. Look at devils tower in wyoming, it is a giant tree stump. I could keep going but you get the gist.

"vagabond" shares a lot of similarities with "vinland saga". if you liked vinland saga, you would assuredly enjoy vagabond.

also unrelated to any of your suggestions, but a recent favourite manga of mine is "dorohedoro". a great dark fantasy action manga. it also received a pretty great anime adaption, which is receiving a season 2 as well.

4. Berserk (1997)
5. Fate/Zero

My favs that aren't included in your list are;

1. Code Geass, awesome characters, gripping plot, and one of the most memorable stories in anime

2. Nichijou, comedy, maybe the one that made me laugh the most, also v wholesome, safe watch if you wanna feel good, you probably saw some clips of it online

3. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, a little bit of everything, good action, great memes, one of the most interesting power systems and each arc has its own tone

4. Madoka Magica, great fights and awesome aesthetics and animation, with a surprisingly dark story, it's just beautiful all around

5. Takopi's Original Sin, go blind in this one, it's pretty short it came out this year and it's gonna be one of the best

Fatal Fury OVA is dumb fun at its best, I love it.

I haven't watched any episodic anime in a very, very long time, I don't even know what's the current big thing.
