How do you pick a game to play??
I keep opening and closing stuff constantly, trying to find the PERFECT game to play, like I have to make my time 100% worth it with the time I have left: It just makes me feel guilty

When I’m in one game, I start thinking about the others I haven’t played. when I try those, it feels like I’m wasting time.
And when I don’t play them at all, I feel like I’m wasting money
I even feel bad playing free games or replaying old ones I already finished, like I’m ignoring the games I actually paid for

I know some of you have 200+ games or even more, so how do you handle it? I don’t want gaming to feel like some job where I have to make the perfect choice every time, but that’s exactly what it’s starting to feel like for me.

Just wondering how others do:

How many games do you actually have in your Favorites, and do you rotate them or just keep them ?
Do you uninstall stuff you haven’t played in months, or do you keep them just in case?
Do you make a “Trash” “Done” or “Never again” category for games you know you’ll never touch again ?
Do you ever open your library, stare at all the titles, and just . . . close Steam because you can’t decide ?
Do you also feel like your time has to be productive or that's just me ?
Do you allow multiple games from the same series in your favorites, or limit yourself to one so it doesn’t feel repetitive ?

I don’t know if this is burnout or guilt from having too many options, but it’s honestly making gaming less enjoyable

Are you getting old? Im 34 and it's happening to me.

It might just be time to sit on the couch and watch Home Improvement.

Gaming was never productive, and choose to play games instead of making money is almost always a bad decision, but I don't really care.
If I'm happy then I'm happy. To hell with productivity.

Usually I just play whatever games that come to mind. Sometimes even PSX or DOS game.

Like seeing random video and feel 'man, I miss this stuff'.
Sometimes it can be as simple as recommend witcher 3 to a random friend and just think I miss my gwent deck, okay another run tonight. :steamhappy:
i feel like that sometimes and i tend to bounce between several favourite genres.

for me the first part is figuring out my mood

when i'm energetic i tend to like playing Boomer shooters, Quake, Doom stuff like that.

when i wanna chill i put my feet up pull out the controller and play some jrpgs.

but then other times i feel a bit lost so i look up games based on things i like, games based on Lovecraft or SCPs or Backrooms.

Sometimes a bit of nostalgia so i look up games like zelda or old gridders like Eye of the beholder.

i quite often go on youtube and lookup different genres of games/reviews and such.

and then sometimes i stumble upon things i've never tried, i came across Minecraft and Terraria and fell in love with the creativity they offer.

so many games these days and it's sometimes hard to find what really draws you in, so just explore and look up stuff on youtube.

sometimes i'm so tired i just like watching people play games on youtube currently i enjoy watching Ed Versus he just does no damage runs of classic end game bosses, easy way to spend a couple hours. takes me back to when i used to watch my best mate up the road play games and egg him on to beat it.

just some ideas, hope i could help. :)

And yeah, too many games is the problem.

As a kid I had like 5 games. Not hard to pick one.

Thr same is true for these streaming services. Too many choices.
When we had 5 TV channels, you just choose whatever looks good at the time and watch it.

the thing is i'm not old at all, this only started happening after I started actively buying games and ended up with too many from sales

before that, when I had fewer games, I’d just pick one and play it without overthinking. now it’s like having too many choices makes it harder to enjoy any of them

Dopamine detox combined with a healthy balance of various hobbies will settle you into a better routine which may include some casual gaming. That is what worked for me anyway. Find some things to do away from being on the PC and try to cultivate a new perspective on entertainment, part of which includes understanding that abuse leads to depression and ever decreasing rewards in brain chemistry.

My Steam account will be 21 years old next month. I only have 153 games. I'm very picky about what I pick up, and even then there's too many games I have installed but haven't seen the title screen, yet.

I don't understand these people with 1-5 year badges and 1,000+ games. How?

Privately Fajita Jim and I have discussed that there is more media out there than anybody could ever watch between channels, streaming, YT, discs... and and and.

You couldn't do it if there were 25 hours in a day.

So 1000+ games in 1-5 years?- Something is seriously wrong!

One thing I will say is there is a lot more niche content than there used to be. And some of it is quite good. You don't have to stick to the mainstream to find something fit just for you. And that goes for games and other screen media.

The printed book offerings are filled with AI ♥♥♥♥ these days, though.

Honestly, I have lost track of most of what is out there.

Many days feel like a race against time. I can't imagine taking on much more. Many times it is more like what could be cut out?

thank you, I actually noticed that gaming feels five times more enjoyable after taking a long walk or just going away for a bit.

It’s almost like when you come back your brain is actually ready to enjoy it again instead of forcing it. even just going outside for a few hours or doing something unrelated makes the whole experience feel fresh again

I also don't understand it, how people end up with 1,000+ games. it's probably cheap bundles, random indie games or really cheap games just to make the number look big and flex.
I usually see those accounts were made way before I was made, so they most likely just have been stacking games for a very long time (I also saw some accounts with 10,000 games)

Currently I divide them by decade, genre & fun gameplay, interesting history / lore, average hours to complete it (which i tag into some sub categories, 1 ending, all endings, 100% completion & achievements). Etc.
Apollo702 11 月 5 日 下午 8:43
Another thing is unless people have some big fat honkin' drives, there is no way that they are going to be storing that many games.

Not with the size of modern games they aren't...
DoomsDay 11 月 5 日 下午 8:48
back when I was young I pick them by their covers, I would look for signs if the game is well made on its cover, and because they were cracked disks, so they are all of the same price per disk.
