The system could be better. Dismissing potential jurors for having watched too much CSI isn't unreasonable, but on the other hand, they expect juries to be made up of abject idiots, and dismiss jurors who call them out for saying crap like 'the accused was caught with 5000 milligrams" instead of "5 grams" because it sounds like much more than it really is.
Also, Judges trying to instruct juries that they can't invoke jury nullification, or penalizing someone who mentions it is blatantly illegal.
The alternatives are horrific.
Is a great thing to say to get out of jury duty.
Or wear a neat poloshirt, and if the judge complains about lack of coat and tie, say "gee, your honor. It's 80 degrees outside, and I left my 'Robespierre did nothing wrong' shirt at home."
I expect that should I be able to speak a complete sentence without my retardation being blatantly obvious that once the interview turns to me bringing up capital punishment and why it should always be an option for offenses that involve littering I will be promptly escorted out of the building.
The only good thing was it exempted me from serving juror duty for a few years.
I've only had to do it once and they settled out of court before they started interviewing us. Hooray...
Did get to read most of a book tho, so it wasn't a total waste of time.
the simple turth is every system has flaws and every system can be abused and garbage like dc politicans would be 100 times worse then they already are.
