what is the highest age gap for a friendship to function

85 years. A kid can be a friend to an old person, or an old person can be friends with a kid. Honestly it is probably safer than most friendships.

There is no limits for friendship.

All you need is common values / activities.

In a normal healthy friendship it doesn't matter. Had friends and mentors of all ages over the years.

Some of my best friends are trees. I've known them since they were nut and acorn.
My parents are dead they were my friends now I just have poor people who I pay

Any, what matters is how the friendship itself is. Some kids are friends with elders in their communities, I see nothing wrong with that.
