When we talk about crime, then having a more even socio-economic specturm of your population seems to impact crime the most (in a positive direction) and the opposite if its uneven.
Compared to London a vile city like Leeds, suddenly seem peaceful.

It does not matter if it is big, there are lots of other big cities with much lower crime rates.
Crime rate is per capita as well.
When a country tries to ban inanimate objects but does nothing about the ill society that lets violence become the norm.
Humans will find a way to hurt others, so don't ban tools that will help people protect themselves. This would have been stopped instantly if there was a civilian carrying.
