How much are American workers struggling?
I meet someone almost every day who lost their job because of Trump, or because they worked in an industry that relied on contracts that Trump messed up, or because we live in a capitalist hellscape where tech companies lay people off to look good for shareholders.

How are regular American workers getting by?

They aren't, mostly.

Even the typical definition of "getting by" in this country involves having essentially permanent debt in one form or another.

Just like our federal fiscal policy! :steamhappy:

You meet someone almost every day who lost their job because of Trump? I mean, you are Chinese so that might actually be true with tariffs causing so much stress to Chinese production. But, this isn't our problem.

Reports indicate about \(70\%\) of Americans are struggling financially, citing issues like inflation, stagnant wages, and insufficient savings.

It's a dire situation in the US and they're heading into a debt crisis now.

American workers are struggling significantly, with a majority reporting financial insecurity, poor job quality, and burnout. About 60% of workers lack quality jobs that include fair pay, benefits, and opportunities for advancement. Financially, roughly 67% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, with many unable to keep up with inflation or cover basic expenses, while job market conditions have led to more long-term unemployment.
Most Americans have defaulted on their loans and credit card debt. Others are working two, or even three jobs. Some have decided to take our more loans just to put food on the table.

Most Americans are struggling, sadly most americans will continue to struggle going into the future. https://www.economist.com/finance-and-economics/2025/06/16/why-todays-graduates-are-screwed our next generations are going to struggle even more. When corporations jump to AI, many will be out of a job as well.
I loathe being in debt, so i ensure im never in it.

other than a mortgage, many decades ago, Ive only been in debt once (only a couple of grand) and paid that off really quick.

i cant imagine what its like to have the spectre of serious debt hanging over me.

Anyone have any stats on the "average" debt a US citizen has?

US is losing reputation of stability and a safe haven for investment. Boycotts and reciprocal tariffs are hurting exports. The dollar is under pressure. The debt unsustainable. All it takes is a tickle at the wrong time to bring down the house of cards. If that happens it will be felt around the globe and no country will be spared.
Trump has it covered, they are currently building slave labor camps for homeless in several states.

The average household has six-figure debt, and the average individual has between $55-65k.

Not being addicted to beer and cigarettes helps.
