Should video game patents be illegal?
Just thinking about it? What would be the pros and flaws of my question becoming a reality?

Whether video game patents should be illegal is a complex issue with arguments on both sides; Opponents argue patents stifle innovation, harm smaller developers, and create monopolies over common mechanics, while proponents contend they protect unique inventions, encourage investment, and can be beneficial for creators.

Yes. Picasso didn’t patent any techniques.
You wouldn’t patent a way of sprinting or a way to ride a bike.
Kareem didn’t patent the skyhook.

Video games is making a boat out of popsicle sticks with your friends. John tells you you’re not allowed to build double mast because he did it first. So for the rest of time at your job of making boats from popsicle sticks, you’re unable to give your customers a good product. John built one boat their entire life, you make them for a living. John is blocking your artwork because they did it first.

If its truely an unique idea yes but if its an copied and purely made for patent trolling( due to how expensive patent lawsuits gets mostly due to the patent lawyers and the time span you must pay them its cheaper to settle only like 1% of all patent lawsuits make it to trial and most of those gets thrown out but its not worth spending hundreds of millions on some makes companies and buys soon to expire patents and just sends cease and desists and suing its quite profitable for most corperations will settle)
Patent terms should just be shorter.

A bigger solution a patent should be viewed by court before filed since patent offices dont really check

Why only on videogames?
Likely due to nintendo

But patents were never about being new...

They could abolish patents altogether.

Like, what makes humans successful is the ability to learn and teach all kinds of stuff. Why lock knowledge behind a paywall? Ah right - it´s about making money, that´s above all. Sometimes i think it´s about humans and having a good time. Silly me...

The thing is most ideas are already down patent is also able to take down anything close imagine if they patented riding in games when no one else can use it. In end it would end up with only a few companies owning every game

Patents are necesery due to invention but the abillity fight back in patent lawsuits needs to be simplified shouldnt cost 10 million at lowest to fight a patent troll

Blame the lawyers then 🤷‍♀️

You could technically use that argument for everything in court but unfortunately laws have to be complicated (wording should be less formal though 🤔)
