Most TV past or present is brain rot. There are rare gems, but overall it mostly is and always was just mass produced prolefeed meant to keep people passive between advertisements.

No idea. I just presume the target demographic for most modern entertainment are children and young teenagers.

Western entertainment is at an all time low, and I do not see it improving in our life times.

It's not square however, and never has been. It's a glow box, a magic glowing rectangle. But not a square. I have a combination television and radio unit in the other room, probably 1940's. Even that one isn't square. The ratio was always ~4:3. It later changed to 16:9. The reason for this is because 16 is 4 square and 9 is 3 squared. The gematria of "You" is 16 ((2+5) + (1+5) + (2+1)), and "I" is 9. So a television encodes a ratio of You:I. It's also a reference to the moon.

I donno, NCIS: Tony&Ziva was entertaining, even if it's some of the worst hollywood hacking since Tim and Abby banging on the same keyboard.

(TBH, that keyboard silliness was far from the dumbest thing. I award that honor to the early episode involving a sailor who had been reading an iaido manual to learn to fight with his naval saber.)

British comedy has gone downhill with dire shows like Derry Girls and We Are Lady Parts. Bad acting and bad jokes thrown together and filmed quickly to keep production costs down. Worlds apart from a show like Only Fools And Horses although that did suffer the longer they dragged it out with Christmas specials and re-using the same sight gags.

Good quality writing like Still Game is a rarity.

Is this where we pretend shows like Terry & June, Duty Free, Sorry, Allo Allo and the like didn't exist (let alone the many even more dire ones that were bad enough to not even last more than a couple of seasons at most) and how the 10 or so good shows on "back in the day" that are remembered were the only things that existed?

That doesn't make my point that British comedy writing has declined in quality any less valid so I'm not sure what point you're making.

"new thing bad, old things good" is almost always a bad take in forums, especially ones like this with all the Trad types/bots present.

theres good telly now and there was bad telly then and the opposite is true as well.
